Album: Hail to the Thief
A gem from Radiohead’s excellent-yet-somewhat-forgotten 2003 album Hail to the Thief. Some have criticized the later portions of Radiohead’s career as being full of glitchy, over-indulgent and intentionally inaccessible music. Certain songs and albums do fit this criticism (as much as I love Kid A, I know a decent amount of my friends would never be able to get over how bizarre it is), but Radiohead managed to make their experimentation with “MacBook as an instrument” music catchy (sort of?) with this track. The warped keyboard riffs ebbs and flows out of the speakers, creating a strangely hypnotic groove for Thom Yorke to spit his paranoia over. Hell, Yorke’s vocals even contribute a few hooks (!) to the song in spite of themselves; see 2:28 for evidence.
