Song of the Day: January 17, 2013

Band: Catch 22

Song: Straight Forward

Album: Washed Up and Through the Ringer

This song has a little bit of everything that makes ska-punk a fun genre. The chorus explodes with it’s power chords and gang-vocals. The horn lines bop around, giving the song a playful feeling. The verses are pure pop-punk hooks and adrenaline. Even the part towards the end when the band takes a sharp left turn into Sugar Ray-esque reggae cliche is so catchy that you can’t help but nod your head along to the beat. Catch 22 may have never lived up to the expectations that Kalnoky’s Keasbey Nights brought upon them, but you’ll be hard pressed to find better, more energetic or more fun ska-punk than this jam.
